Characterization of Patients Admitted for Suspected Dengue at Piti Fajardo Pediatric Hospital during 2022

Introduction:?dengue is a disease caused by an arbovirus. The vast majority of cases occur in children under 15 years of age, focusing among the most vulnerable groups. Clinical differences in the presentation of this in children and adults have been reported, the former presented more vomiting and skin rash, while the latter more arthralgia and myalgia.
Objective: to characterize the patients admitted for presumptive dengue at Piti Fajardo Pediatric Hospital during 2022.
Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out from July to September 2022 at Comandante Piti Fajardo Maternal and Children Hospital, with a sample of 110 patients who met the inclusion criteria: patients admitted as suspected dengue at the Comandante Piti Fajardo Maternal and Children Hospital and that their parents gave informed consent to participate in the research.
Results: of the total number of patients, 54.55% belonged to the male sex, with a predominance of the age group between 12 and 18 years with 41.81%. The cardinal symptom in almost all the patients was fever with 96.36%. The predominant alarm sign was leukopenia with 41.88%. The most frequent complication was policerositis with 5.45%.
Conclusion: in the study carried out, patients between the ages of 12 and 18 predominated, as well as those of the male sex, with G?ines being the most affected municipality. The predominant symptom and sign was fever.
