Introduction: Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, inflammatory condition characterized by intense itching. The use of aloe vera is an effective therapeutic alternative.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of 50% aloe vera cream as a therapeutic alternative in patients with atopic dermatitis.
Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted with a control group. All patients with atopic dermatitis who attended the Dermatology Clinic of the Luis Li Trigent Polyclinic in Güines, Mayabeque province, in 2023 were included. The study population consisted of 168 patients, a sample of 80 of whom was selected. The variables studied were age, sex, adverse reactions, response time, and population acceptance.
Results: Female patients between 28 and 37 years of age were the most affected in both groups. A positive clinical response was obtained, with skin whitening beginning in the second week, and the treatment was safe. Adverse reactions occurred in only five patients in both groups. Patients considered treatment with aloe vera cream adequate for atopic dermatitis in 85% of cases.
Conclusions: 50% aloe vera cream is effective in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. A clinical response was obtained within a few weeks, with minimal adverse reactions. The treatment received favorable acceptance rates from most patients.
