Cutaneous Leishmaniosis. Case report
Keywords:
Infectious diseases, zoonosis, cutaneous LeishmaniosisAbstract
Introduction: Leishmaniosis are zoonotic diseases that cause in humans a set of clinical syndromes that can compromise the skin, mucous membranes and viscera. They are caused by different species of protozoa of the genus Leishmania and transmitted to animals and humans by insects of the Psychodidae family.
Objective: To describe the case of a patient diagnosed with cutaneous leishmaniosis.
Case Report: The case of a 42-year-old male patient, mestizo, peasant, resident of a rural area, with no apparent relevant personal or family pathological history, who attended the medical center with a skin lesion is reported. The patient reports that approximately three months ago he noticed a small ulcer on his right arm that was initially painless, but that over time it has increased in size and become painful.
Conclusions: To date, no indigenous cases of leishmaniosis have been reported in Cuba, although there have been few imported cases from different endemic areas, so the necessary tools must be available to face the diagnosis.
